Competitive Coaches of the Year

Hayli LaBadie - Competitive Girls

This was a great year for both teams that I coach. My 01 Vapor finished in 2nd place in the Centennial League Gold Division. We traveled to Las Vegas for the Vegas Cup and finished 3rd in the Broomfield Shootout. It's been a great experience watching these girls grow and change not only into better soccer players but young adults as well. My 03 Magista team finished 3rd in the Centennial League Elite Group A. We made a good run in President's Cup making it to the Quarterfinals, and will be traveling next month to Las Vegas for the Mayors Cup Showcase. This team has many new members compared to the past season and it was great to watch them grow as not only individuals but a cohesive unit as the season progressed. I can't wait to work with them in the future!

"I am extremely humbled and blessed to be chosen as a Coach of the Year. I am so thankful for BSC that they took a chance on a young coach like myself and gave me the opportunity to find my passion in coaching once my playing career was ended abruptly. I am incredibly thankful and appreciative to the staff, my players and their parents for allowing me to be a part of their lives and allowing me to try to develop them into better soccer players and young ladies."

Nigel Hoyland - Competitive Girls

I took over the 04 Girls Magista team at the start of their U13 Spring season in Feb 2017, just after they had been promoted from Premier 3 to Premier 2 with the awesome Dave Fuller as their coach. To say we had a rocky introduction to P2 play was an understatement! We struggled mightily against the top four P2 teams (3 of which would be promoted to P1 by a wide margin), but against all the other teams we were extremely competitive, with virtually every game finishing with only one goal between the two sides. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a rub of luck during those games and we returned back to Premier 3 at the end of the Spring season, but with our heads unbowed and stronger for the experience.

The try-outs were particularly difficult, but we started the summer regrouping and playing some very good soccer in the Broomfield Fives. We were underdogs though in the Broomfield Shootout and again, we struggled against the higher ranked P2 teams. We were justifiably a little apprehensive going into the P3 Fall season, but this is where things started to really click! Defensively, the girls started to form a strong bond and our passing play through the thirds and finishing also began to come together - we finished the first 5 games with 3 wins and 2 ties, conceding just 5 goals (which was a huge improvement over the previous season!). Things were looking up! We continued improving going into the second half of the season scoring some impressively taken goals and with our GK and back-four deciding that they didn’t want to concede any more goals! We played 5 further games, with 4 wins and 1 tie, conceding 0 goals! The record of 7 wins and 3 ties (with a P3 best of 17 goals for, and 5 against) got us promoted as P3 Champions back up to P2. Well done girls!

The old saying goes “it takes a village to raise a child,” and likewise, it takes a team of amazing past and present parents, fellow coaches (assistant and Club coaches), team managers, off-season fitness course volunteers, game-statisticians and GK warmer-uppers to get a team through a challenging and disappointing season, and to raise them up, helping to mold them into the fantastic squad they were throughout the fall. The team rose like a phoenix from the ashes of P2 this past fall and it has been an absolute joy to see the team bond, individually and collectively improve, and for them to finally realize the successes they have worked so hard to achieve. This award is recognition of the entire team’s dedication and effort.

Thanks especially to the ever-suffering Tom Rodriguez (the team’s awesome Asst Coach), the ridiculously efficient Susan Farhar (our Team Mgr), the fantastic BSC club coaches/staff, and the many parents who stepped forwards to help support the team and advise/encourage the coaches (you all know who you are!) throughout 2017/18.

Finally, to the wonderful girls on 04 Magista…you are a very talented bunch of young ladies who work so very hard and demonstrate such warmth towards each other, all the while growing in maturity and remembering to have oodles of fun! Each and every one of you girls ROCK and we are very lucky coaches to be able to spend so much time working with you all!

Stuart Poole - Competitive Boys

I am extremely grateful for the recent award. I am a firm believer in soccer being a team sport and giving all players the opportunity to improve in the right environment. That is why I love working in this younger age group, the improvements that can be made over a short period of time with hard work, listening skills, and focus are astonishing.

I started the 2017 season with two high school age teams alongside my 06 boys and finished with my current 06 and 07 boys teams. My 07 boys currently play in Premier 1 and my 06 boys play in Premier 3. Each team offers unique challenges, but are both equally fun to work alongside. I look forward to new challenges within my current age group and watching all the players within our club grow and develop.
