Academy Parent Resources

Welcome to the BSC Academy Parent Resources page!  The Academy program is for 9U and 10U players (2009 and 2008 birthyear).  On the right, you'll find links to the most important things you'll need for the Academy and Academy Select programs.  In addition, there are several very informative articles that we recommend you take a little time to read.  They will prove helpful for both you and your player on their journey as developing soccer players.  Below this section, you'll find a list of frequently asked questions about our Academy and Academy Select programs.  As always, if you have any questions about the Academy or Academy Select programs, email Michael Green, Director of Developmental Soccer, at michael.green@broomfieldsoccerclub.org. We are always happy to help!

Academy FAQ's

How are Academy and Academy Select teams formed?

Academy teams are formed following the BSC Recreational Team Formation Policy.  Academy Select teams are formed by the Director of the Academy Select Program and by invitation only.  Invitations are extended to players who have attended the Mixers.  If you are new to the club and wish to be a part of the Academy Select Program, you must contact our Director of Developmental Soccer, Michael Green, at michael.green@broomfieldsoccerclub.org prior to registering.

What is the difference between gold, silver and bronze?  What is the difference between the two leagues (recreational and intermediate), and how do they correspond with gold, silver and bronze?

Once your player gets to the 9U level, his/her team begins playing against teams from other clubs.  With the current CSA league alignment, there are two leagues...recreational (less competitive) and intermediate (more competitive).   Within each of these league there are gold, silver and bronze levels.  Academy teams are placed in the recreational league, while Academy Select teams are placed in the intermediate league (there are some exceptions).  As a club, we can make requests for level, however, final placements are determined by the Rec LOC, which is a committee run by Colorado Soccer Association.

What are the qualifications of the coaches?

To coach at the Academy Select level, coaches must have a USSF E License or NSCAA Junior Level V/IV.  Coaches at the Academy Select level also receive a great deal of professional coaching support from Michael Green, Director of Developmental Soccer, who holds his USSF A License and NSCAA Premier Diploma.  At the Academy level, we do not have any specific requirements, as it is traditional rec soccer, and most coaches are parent-coaches.

Does the club have a mandatory uniform?

Yes!  Broomfield Soccer Club does have mandatory uniform requirements.

Can my kid “play up”?

All players are asked to play in their true age group.  Only if they are identified by the technical staff during the fall season, a meeting will take place between the parents and the technical staff to discuss placement for the spring.  Please do not ever falsify your child's date of birth.  If your child's birthdate has been entered incorrectly, intentionally or not, they are not guaranteed a roster spot.

Is my child's birth certificate required in order for my child to play?

Yes.  For all age groups, 4U - 18U, players are required to submit a copy of their birth certificate to verify date of birth.  You can submit your child's birth certificate via email to birthcerts@broomfieldsoccerclub.org.  If you are not comfortable sending it via email, you can bring it in for visual verification.  If your child is a 4U - 8U player, you can bring it to the BSC Office.  If you are a 9U-19U Rec or Competitive Player, you can bring it to the Colorado Soccer Association Office in Greenwood Village.  Please visit www.coloradosoccer.org for address and hours of operation.

What is the refund policy?

For recreational soccer, if you request a refund prior to the closing of the registration period (January 15th for spring soccer, July 15th for fall soccer), a 100% refund is available, less a $10 processing fee.  Following the close of the registration period, a 50% refund is available until the end of January for spring soccer, and the end of July for fall soccer, less a $10 processing fee.  After that period, no refunds are available.  Special circumstances may be considered (injury, family moving out of town, etc.), but a child changing their mind is not considered one of these special circumstances.

For Academy Select, a 50% refund is available until June 20 for the fall season or December 20 for the spring season.  After that period, no refunds are available.
