Seminars
Throughout the year BSC runs optional seminars for Blast competitive player and parents which cover a wide range of themes. These are designed to go beyond on-field development and, in some cases, beyond what you can get anywhere else in Colorado. Below are descriptions of the courses which run on an annual basis.
ACL Injury Prevention (12+ Participants - U11+ Ages)
ACL injuries happen with surprising frequency in soccer - particularly among teenage girls. Some are caused by collisions with other players, but most are "non-impact" in nature. Recent research has shown that the large majority of these can be prevented with simple training. During our ACL course, coaches are instructed on proper warm-up activities and how to spot poor movement mechanics during games and practices so players can be taught to correct their technique to avoid the awkward turns that can lead to expensive and painful knee surgery. Visit our Non-Contact ACL Injury Avoidance Information page for more.

College Advisory (30+ Participants - U15+ Ages)
College tuition seems to go up every year. Currently Broomfield Soccer Club has former players at schools who charge over $50,000 per year. Some of them get to play for free as a result of academic and sports scholarships. On this course we teach Blast competitive player how to apply for college scholarships, how to be seen by college coaches, and how important grades are to your academic future. We encourage all of our players to take part in the program, starting from their first year of high school.
Nutrition Course (100+ Participants - U11+ Ages)
Each year, we arrange a soccer-specific nutrition seminar at Broomfield Auditorium. We make this very affordable (tickets cover the cost of the room rental and speaker) so that everyone in the club can have access. During the evening players and parents can learn what kinds of foods are good for players before and after games, how this changes, and how to know what is right for you. Our speakers also talk about hydration specific for the Colorado environment. Studies have shown that improving your food and drink content and timing can drastically improve your short term and long term games so we encourage everyone to attend these seminars.

Psychology Course (12 Participants - U14+ Ages)
As far as we know, Broomfield is the only club in the state to offer an intensive psychology course to players. This is classroom-based and includes presentations, group exercises, individual analysis, and concluded with a session from the US Soccer National Team sports psychologist. Topics covered include mental preparation for games, concentration, visualization, and team motivation. The course is run during the winter break/spring season and is open to any Blast competitive player 14 years of age or older.

Sideline Management Course (20+ Participants - U11+ Ages)
Every parent of a Blast competitive player is required to take the Sideline Management course during their first season with us. This is a quick and relatively entertaining presentation that covers how you can support your kids without being aggressive, negative, or controlling. We cover the laws of the game that are most frequently misunderstood, weird situations people have probably never seen, and give you the chance to ask a panel of "soccer people" any question at all about the game, club, or refereeing it. If we don't know the answer we will try to find it out for you! Since this course started three years ago we have reduced the number of parents being thrown out of games at Broomfield Commons from an average of six per season to less than one.
